While Na’Vi made a far less impactful roster move than NRG, it still raises some tough to answer questions about how this team will perform at the 2019 StarLadder Berlin Major. While their roster change was almost certainly for the better, as Edward really couldn’t contribute to winning Counter Strike anymore.

Still though, it’ll be a tall order to integrate such a young player this close to the 2019 StarLadder Berlin Major. Boombl4 can certainly help this team out in the long term, but it’ll be tough for him to make a difference with such little time with the team. Check our favorite CSGO betting tips.

The first thing I have to mention with Na’Vi, despite how obvious it may be, is that they have s1mple on their team. This guy doesn’t have bad tournaments, much less bad games. He is Mr. Consistency, not to mention the best player on any given server, at pretty much anytime. There’s just a handful of players who can go up against him on any given day, and even then it’s never easy.

Beyond that, unfortunately, the roster begins to thin out. Electronic is very much a good Counter Strike player, but I’m not sure he’d crack the top two if put on Astralis or Liquid. Flamie is a perennial disappointment, and Zeus is, well, Zeus.

I’m intrigued to see what Boombl4 can bring to the table, as he was a key contributor on Winstrike during their run at the Katowice Major. Especially now that he’s been released from IGL duties, if he can make an impact on the server, Na’Vi may have a shot at the StarLadder Berlin Major.

Players

S1mple

What else is there to say, really? A transcendent player, one that gives his team a real chance to win every game that he’s present in. While he will occasionally throw away rounds due to his overconfidence and unwillingness to play within Zeus’ system, he’s one of the most valuable players in CS:GO.

Unfortunately, he has yet to win a Major. He might have the worst luck of any professional esports player in history, routinely running up against juggernauts like prime SK, Astralis, and now Liquid. He’s no doubt anxious for his time in the sun, and the StarLadder Berlin Major might finally be his chance to win on the biggest stage in CS:GO.

Electronic

S1mple’s trusty sidekick Electronic has been Na’Vi’s number two asset for a year or so now. It does seem kind of unfair to label Electronic as S1mple’s trusty sidekick, but I’ll continue to do so until he gives me reason not to.

He is consistently okay, and provides the only real support that S1mple has, but it still really isn’t enough. When Electronic is playing at his best, he gives his team a chance to win games, but not a great one.

Flamie

I honestly don’t understand how this guy is still on the team. He was supposed to be a fragger, someone who could follow up on the carnage that S1mple creates and help put away rounds for the CIS team.

Instead, he’s an ineffectual and inconsistent third fiddle, who blows games on the regular. While there’s always an outside chance he’ll have a crazy tournament like he did at IEM Katowice, most of the time you’re going to get a whole lot of eh.

Boombl4

Really the only unknown on Na’Vi at this point, he’ll have to step up and be the difference maker if Na’Vi want to make a playoff run.

And when I say he’s an unknown, I really mean it. This guy has very minimal top tier LAN experience, which would make me nervous about his prospects at the StarLadder Berlin Major. I’d give about even odds that he totally chokes and dooms Na’Vi to a disappointing finish.

Not that I’m down on the guy, or the pickup just for the record. I think long term adding Boombl4 was a great move, I just don’t know how good it will look right away.

Zeus

I’m higher on Zeus than most, for whatever reason. Maybe I’m the only one who remembers PGL Krakow, where Zeus led a ragtag team of cast offs to a Major championship in one of the most impressive IGL performances I’ve ever seen.

Regardless, I have faith in him to lead this team still. His fragging leaves quite a bit to be desired, obviously, but if the rest of the team carried its weight, I don’t think it would be as noticeable a problem.

Map Pool

Assuming they keep the map pool the same as when they were playing with Edward, I’m not a fan. Here’s what they’ve looked like on LAN over the past six months with Edward or Boombl4:

  • Train – Played 10 times, 80.0% win rate
  • Mirage – Played 18 times, 72.2% win rate
  • Inferno – Played 13 times, 69.2% win rate
  • Nuke – Played 8 times, 50.0% win rate
  • Dust2 – Played 17 times, 47.1% win rate
  • Overpass – Played 13 times, 38.5% win rate
  • Vertigo – Played 1 time, 0% win rate

Neither their top end nor their bottom end impress me really. They don’t have a go to map to take opponents to, their bottom four maps are pretty terrible, and they have no depth. Their best bet in a best of three is probably Mirage, which has an inflated win rate due to games over questionable opponents.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Best player on the server

Yeah, I get it, you’re sick of hearing about S1mple. Just like you’re sick of hearing about Tom Brady or Michael Jordan. He’s the best, there isn’t much we can do about it. Just S1mple’s presence gives Na’Vi a psychological advantage as soon as they step in the server, and there isn’t much that any other team can do about it.

If I had to bet, the only team unbothered by S1mple is Astralis, due to their familiarity and their trust in device to win the head to head. Beyond that, S1mple can force his will onto just about any AWPer in CS:GO, and by extension, any team.

Depth

Starladder Major Odds 2020

Obviously not their strong suit. They don’t stack up well against any team in the top five at least in terms of individual skill up and down the roster, which is a problem.

While S1mple is undeniably better than most teams number one option, electronic usually isn’t better than their number two, and so on and so forth. Winning series is an uphill battle for this team, regardless of who they’re facing.

TL;DR

To summarize, I’m not a fan of their chances to finally win the StarSeries Berlin Major. They don’t have the consistency to beat teams like ENCE, Astralis, and Liquid in back to back series, due to their lack of depth.

While S1mple gives them a shot in any given series, he can’t give them a shot in every given series. As such, I like them as a playoff team and an upset candidate, not so much as a contender.
